Skin, Love The One You're In

Your skin is always changing, but it’s never too late to slow the aging process. For every decade that passes, your skin undergoes specific changes. Knowing what to expect and preparing is key to maintaining an enviable complexion.

By employing these methods, you can flaunt beautiful skin for the rest of your life.

30’s — THINK ANTIOXIDANTS. Fight-off damaging free radicals with potent antioxidants, such as products that contain green or white tea, soy, lycopene, retinoids, vitamin C and E, or pomegranate. Pay attention to the concentration of antioxidants to ensure adequate amounts will be absorbed by the skin. Melbourne Dermatology recommends products that contain the following percentages of antioxidants:

Vitamin C – 5 to 20%
Vitamin E – at least 1%
Retinoids – pure and at least .01 to 1%

To keep your face glowing and smooth, exfoliate with a gentle alpha hydroxy cleanser. And always, always wear sunscreen.

40’s — GET MOISTURIZED. Years of sun exposure are revealed. You may have to confront lines, blotchiness, dry skin and uneven skin tone in the mirror because collagen production has slowed down. Now is the time to moisturize with a creamy cleanser containing olive oil cleanser or shea butter, both provide skin with superb moisture. Continue using face and eye creams rich in antioxidants and drink plenty of water to keep skin hydrated. Adequate water consumption is a necessity no matter your age. Chemical Peels will be your secret weapon in helping to boost your Collagen production.

50’s — INCREASE CELL-TURNOVER. Age slows the entire body down, including your skin. During your 50’s, the skin’s cell-turnover greatly decreases. That means more dryness, less elasticity, larger pores, and lingering lines around your mouth and eyes. Age spots (hyperpigmentation) have made their way to the surface by now. Combat these intruders with an exfoliating cleanser; it increases cell turnover and softens the skin. Look for key ingredients like vitamin C and lactic acid to stimulate collagen production and fade age spots.

60’s — THINK TREATMENT PRODUCTS. Chemical peels and products that deeply penetrate the dermis brighten and plump dull, thinning skin. Ingredients like lactic acid (an exfoliator), and hyaluronic acid (a humectant) are outstanding for both texturizing and moisturizing. As always, avoiding the sun is critical, as is drinking plenty of water and consuming foods with antioxidants.

As each decade passes, your skincare routine needs to become more aggressive — but that doesn’t mean harsh!

Be gentle to your skin. Choose the right products and treat your face with love

After Care For Peels

What Is A Chemical Peel?

Sun exposure, acne and the basic aging process can leave your skin tone uneven, wrinkled, spotted or scarred. A "Chemical peel" is a general classification for a number of treatments used to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin.

During a chemical peel nothing actually "peels" off. A chemical solution is applied to the skin, and works by dissolving the upper layers of the skin. As the tissue is dissolved it stimulates the body's healing response, causing new tissue to emerge that is smoother, more even in texture, and younger looking.

 You can improve:

  • Acne or acne scars

  • Age and liver spots

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Freckles

  • Scars

  • Sun-damaged skin

The depth and strength of the 'peel' varies based upon the strength of the chemicals used and the length of time the solution is applied.

What to Expect

A chemical peel takes anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour.

The procedure starts with a thorough cleaning of the skin to get rid of any excess dirt and oil. Next, the peel is applied to the designated areas, where it produces a controlled wound-healing process stimulating the growth of collagen, elastin, and ultimately healthier, youthful, new skin.

Note: Chemical peels may hurt a little. Most people report a warm to hot sensation that lasts about five to 10 minutes and is followed some stinging. Post treatment, your face may be a little red for a 24hr period. There should be no scabbing or swelling.

Several days after your peel your skin will begin to flake. You will need to use an oil free sunscreen with a protection factor of 15 or higher every day to help keep your skin looking fresh. We recamend using Badger and physical blocker. You may also apply Aloe to any dry or flacky areas.

Peels may be reapplied at two to three week intervals, but treatment plans are individualized based on the strength of peel and the skin condition it is designed to treat.

All About The Brazilian / Waxing 411

What in the world is a Brazilian Wax?

Brazilian wax removes the hair in the pubic region all the way to the rear.  Unlike the bikini wax, you are able to go completely bare down there.  However, you may opt to leave a small landing strip or martini glass above the vaginal area.

Is getting a Brazilian painful?

It’s not the most comfortable experience especially the first time.  Our Estheticians work hard to put you at ease and keep your mind occupied with cheerful banter.  We’d be happy to provide a numbing cream before your treatment.  You may also want to take ibuprofen about 30 min prior.

How long should my hair be before I wax?

For the best results, we strongly recommend three weeks of hair growth or for hair to be ¼ inches long at the time of your treatment. Approximately the size of a grain of rice.  If the hair is too short, we’ll have to ask you to reschedule.  Proper hair length will allow our Estheticians to perform the best service with lasting results. If you are worried your hair might be too long don’t worry we can trim the hair a little before waxing.

What type of wax do you use?

We are committed to using the highest quality waxes that give you the cleanest results.  We use European hard wax for sensitive body parts like the face, underarms, bikini and Brazilian.  Hard wax is best on coarse hair and reduces irritation because it is applied at a low temperature; shrink wraps around the hair and is removed from the root without pulling the skin.

How Often should I come back?

Within 4-6 weeks this is becase the hair grows on differant hair cycles.  Waxing will change the structure of the hair growth after your 2 or 3rd brazilian. You will notice smoother skin, finer hair, less ingrowns and it will feel less painfull.

Post wax at home care.

After your Brazilian we will send you home with you're own suggar scrub to use 24hrs after your waxing service. This will help stop any ingrown hairs and leave your skin smooth and hydrated.
